Study
There are three stage of my own ‘school’, or what you call learning, research, academics…
Growing out of the classroom
First try of project-based research
Probe, discuss, read & study any Topic freely
Stage 1 —– Growing out of the classroom
Story One
The Linear Algebra course provided by MIT professor Gilbert Strang on BiliBili is an eye opener! Beside intuitively and spacially understand vector spaces, the four subspaces with matrices, the professor also illustrated that:
Linear Algebra <-> graph theory, differential equations, electric circuit: Kirchhoff’s law, statistics: least square, Fourier series, Markov chain, Eigenvalue…
Do you know: Any person in this world could be connect by an social relation web in less than six steps?
Story Two
ModPo (Modern & Contemporary American Poetry) is an course provided by University of Pennsylvania (https://modpo.org). Through tons and tons of reading and writing materials, I gain a sense of what contemporary means:
==Freedom, new relationship with nature, discovery of human, fight & being crazy.==
I walked through Whitman & Dickinson to Langston Hughes, currently, haha.
My favorite excerpt, from Walt Whitman
What do you think has become of the young and old men?
And what do you think has become of the women and children?
They are alive and well somewhere,
The smallest sprout shows there is really no death,
And if ever there was it led forward life, and does not wait at the end to arrest it,
And ceas’d the moment life appear’d.
All goes onward and outward, nothing collapses,
And to die is different from what any one supposed, and luckier.

Story One
Eye-Test app is an challenge of my limit. Beyond school and textbook, how far can I go?
I chosed MIT App Inventor to build my app, it is simple to use.

Story Two
some definitions:
machine learning - Regression, linear combination, we compute a non-linear equation that aims to successfully predict every possible events
deep learning - a much more advanced way of computing that non-linear equation
Hypergraph Neural Networks - turn data into graphs, and find patterns in nodes, edges, and graphs
Transformer - this is the building block of GPT, good at learning language
Vision Transformer - a mutant transformer that is also good at dealing with images
Vision Transformer + driver action recognition in a long-term research project (Aspiring Explorers in Sciences, AXIS)
It supposed to be Hypergraph Neural Networks instead of Vision Transformer, but the former one isn’t that useful to our project. Just fancy networks…

Stage 3 —– Probe, discuss, read & study any Topic freely

Knots Theory! & Rubics Cube, How exciting.
==That moment, I realized that all the subject in this world is ultimately about learning a ‘language’, something we used to discover, and communicate our discovery. And that this language, in large, could emerge as a single ‘thing’.==
It all start with an introduction to Knots thoery seminar in AXIS. It was fascinating!
I had two important realization after the seminar:
- Knots theory isn’t that ‘hard’, it is fundamental but difficult to penetrate. There are beginner’s books
- Knots are the language of the world, in a large part.
One of the most exciting discovery is the Jone’s Polynomials. Knots could be projected to a polynomial, and we can solve it just like any other equation!?
